Understand

The Smart Communities project, aims to spread awareness and change how we consume energy within communities. They came to us with a simple brief asking us to help them facilitate debate, community engagement and ultimately, change behaviours using a website as the pivotal tool.

Engage

Taking into account the brief, we created a website with a view to influence communities and change their behaviour. The site enabled community members to record their energy consumption and pledge new ways to save energy during everyday activities. We wanted to ensure that the site was not only user friendly, but easy for community members and project leaders to update as the project evolved over time. Therefore careful consideration was given towards functionality and user experience when conceiving and building the site.

Deliver

Due to the fact that the project was initially being piloted on a small-scale community we decided to deliver this project in three phases. The first being the registration process, the second setting up a forum and the third offering progress reports and feedback. So far, the action project has been very successful and the high levels of participation we've seen will hopefully see the project being rolled out across a number of communities.
