HGA’s Record-breaking Birthday Year

The Christmas season is upon us and our team are headed towards the end of 2019 at breakneck speed with some of our biggest ever projects underway.

This month alone we delivered a charity dinner at Old Trafford for the mighty Manchester United, went straight into a roadshow event for Nationwide and then onto Yorkshire over the weekend to set up one of our biggest events yet. For two weeks, we have been on-site producing a game-changing product launch for the world’s biggest chemical company. Add to this multiple video projects and full-scale creative campaigns, plus we’ve been trialling the latest technology to deliver brand new digital software and websites for new clients.

It’s a typically busy few weeks in an incredible year for HGA. In 2019 we turned 30, celebrating three decades of extraordinary events for a huge range of clients. We are so proud of our rich history of success and the business we have built. We see this as the strong foundations on which we build our future, and we have big ambitions for the years ahead.

70% growth in sales

Not only has it been our big birthday – but we also celebrated another record-breaking year with 70% growth on the previous year. We are on track to achieve our ambition to double the size of the business by 2021. This has come from a rich variety of work for both long-standing clients and brand new partnerships.

We are proud to hold great working relationships with long-standing clients that date back many years, including Brakes, Travelodge, AGBarr and Nationwide.

We are also excited to be pushing ahead with new projects for massive brands like Well pharmacies, True Religion and the British Heart Foundation.

HGA is a C&IT Top 50 Challenger

In September C&IT magazine selected HGA in its Top 50 Challenger Agencies list. Every year it publishes the top 50 event agencies by turnover, meaning that “smaller but perfectly formed” agencies don’t quite make it. The challenger chart offers an in-depth analysis of the biggest contenders and so we were thrilled to be recognised by the industry in this way.

We have a long-standing history of promoting from within at HGA and this year has been no different. Client Services Director Chris Hobson was promoted from Head of Sales after an outstanding year of sales success and joins myself and Ian Austin on the board of directors with our Co-founders Ian Grime and Michael Henderson.

In June we also celebrated Steve Hartley’s much deserved promotion to Creative Director after five years with HGA.

New starters in the mix

New starter Grace Aspin joins as Events Assistant

In 2019 we have welcomed eleven new starters to the team including seven brand new roles across all departments. Additional posts include Howard Alderson-Perkins as Warehouse Manager, Dre Dessi as Creative Designer, Tallah Khan as Software Developer, Grace Taylor as Client Services Manager and Grace Aspin as Events Assistant – all of whom have had a big impact on our business this year. Our full-service agency now stands at 22 staff and we are recruiting for a further three new roles – Event Technician, Senior Events Producer and a Motion Graphics Designer. In November, Sam Mundy joined the team as Technical Projects Manager and we welcomed Helen Ellis as our new Head of Live Events, as reported in C&IT magazine.

The HGA warehouse triples in size

Earlier this year we took on additional units to our Preston warehouse, creating a 7,500 sq ft facility to house and organise HGA’s wealth of AV, staging and technical equipment.

The gatekeeper of this state-of-the-art kit is our new Warehouse Manager Howard Alderson-Perkins, who is also the craftsman behind all of our custom-built stage sets in our scenic workshop. We have always believed in the importance of having our own technical team and equipment to deliver our events and now this department is stronger and more capable than ever before. Imagination really is the limit!

The year ahead

Plans are well underway for 2020 starting with national conferences, brand new websites, apps and videos all being delivered in the very first week in January. We are excited for the year ahead and the potential our growing business has within reach to create extraordinary live experiences and campaigns for our clients both new and long-standing.
