One of the great things about being based so close to Manchester is having easy access to a rich and creative Northern design community. Myself and our Head of Creative Steve, recently went along to a ‘notworking’ event by Glug Manchester, an evening of ideas for creative types. Glug offer talks and networking events nationwide – you should definitely check them out!
The evening line up for this particular event consisted of the award-winning photographer Owen Harvey, creative copywriter Olivia Downing and also the graphic designer, lettering artist and typographer Craig Black. Being graphic designers, we had specifically wanted to go and see Craig Black as his work is very exciting and fresh.
I particularly enjoyed hearing more about the work he has done for Thirst Crafts, a specialist drinks packaging design agency. He showed us one of the best showreels I have seen in a long time, which really showed each of their projects in creative ways.
One of his projects that really caught my eye was for Loch Lomond Brewery. The hand-drawn illustrations for each of the different ales all work together, and work as a piece of art, instead of a product packaging. I love the approach and find the results really eye-catching. It was fascinating to hear him speak on the subject!
